We are excited to announce the addition of several new Ranch classes to this year’s Performance Day lineup at the Dryden Fall Fair Horse Show! With Ranch events continuing to grow in popularity across the equine industry, we are proud to bring Ranch Riding, Ranch Trail, and Ranch Rail to our fairgrounds for competitors and spectators to enjoy.
These classes are designed to showcase the versatility, movement, responsiveness, and overall practicality of the everyday working ranch horse while highlighting smooth transitions, forward movement, and natural style. Whether you are an experienced ranch competitor or looking to try something new with your horse, these classes offer a fun and welcoming opportunity for riders of all skill levels.
We look forward to seeing competitors step into the arena and bring the spirit of ranch horsemanship to this year’s Fall Fair!
Showcases the horse’s ability to navigate obstacles typically found while working on a ranch, such
as gates, logs, bridge work, side-passing, backing through obstacles and ground-tying. Performance should reflect a willing
attitude, demonstrating correctness, confidence and practicality with emphasis on smoothness, responsiveness and a calm
forward working demeanor rather than speed or extreme precision.
Ranch Riding: highlights versatility and movement of the working ranch horse by travelling freely forward with natural,
ground covering gaits to reflect capability of working long hours in the pasture. Riders are to perform transitions, extended and
collected gaits, stops and turns. Horse should appear relaxed, balanced and responsive with emphasis on quality of movement,
correctness and overall usefulness.
Ranch Rail: a rail-only class that evaluates horse movement and manners at the walk, jog and lope in both directions of the
arena, while demonstrating a natural forward moving ranch gait with correct form and a calm, willing attitude. Emphasis is on
consistency, correctness and suitability as a working ranch horse rather that exaggerated movement or headset.
